What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
I am too young to say that all my major learnings in life are from seeing the experiences of the incredible women around me. I can say though, age definitely breeds wisdom and it is from this that you begin to see all and encompass and take from the power of amazing women. So having a day to celebrate the obstacles that women overcome every single day, it’s a moment to tell the women in your life how incredible they are and I am all about that every day and especially today.
Why did you opt in to be part of Vamp’s charity campaign with Dress for Success (#EmpowerHour)? What about the campaign resonated with you?
It is as Maya Angelou said, “My mission in life is not to merely survive. But to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style.” – Dress for Success #EmpowerHour embodies all of this.
How important is it to give back to the community with pro-bono posts and support women empowerment initiatives?
Giving back is one of the first things my family taught me. I remember collecting donations with mum as young as 6 for a school charity campaign. The notion of giving back is embedded in my culture and I am always conscious of it. Now that I have a voice on social media, I can carry this through to my work and inform my followers of initiatives they can get involved with and this makes me so happy.
How do you use Instagram to build a personal brand?
I have been on Instagram since the Valencia filter days. As I grow older, my brand develops and becomes more authentic to me. Right now I am just enjoying building my career and sharing my journey with that along with my other passions. Who knows what will be next.
How can fashion blogging empower women?
I think particularly from my experience where I only share modest fashion it gives me and my audience confidence. Young women like me who want to keep to the modest culture but want to be fashion forward find inspiration through my content and that’s empowering women in more aspects than one.
Does being an influencer/content creator empower you? How?
Yes! now more so than ever as I have grown having my blog enabled me to stay open minded and find beauty in the unordinary and this is helping me today.
What and/or who inspires you?
Almost everything inspires me. I know it sounds so cheesy but I work across advertising and public relations when I am not on Instagram and in such a fast paced career you need to become attune to love life and enjoy the most humbling moments.
If you could say one thing to your younger self what would it be?
Believe in yourself!
