It’s that time of year again. Apple has released a suite of new devices and accessories for Apple lovers to feast their eyes upon and add to their wish lists.
Most excitingly, Apple has released a new iPad Pro that promises to take your content creation to the next level, thanks to exciting new camera, storage and usage features that the iPad has never seen before.
Enough small talk. Let’s get into everything you need to know about the new iPad Pro.
Introducing the M1 chip
Apple’s M1 chip is usually only found in Macs. But now, this performance-boosting feature has been introduced to the iPad Pro. The two main things the M1 chip brings to the table are an 8-core central processing unit (CPU) and GPU. Together, they make the iPad Pro the fastest of its kind.
The CPU is the feature that retrieves and executes instructions given by the iPad user. With the M1 chip, the iPad Pro is 50% faster than the previous iPad Pro and 75x faster than the 1st Gen iPad.
Why is this exciting? The apps you use to edit your content with, like Photoshop and Lightroom, will be working faster than you can imagine. Your productivity will be boosted and your workflow will be streamlined.
Then there’s the GPU, or graphics processing unit. This is the feature that processes and displays the graphics on your device. The new iPad Pro delivers 40% faster graphics and is impressively 1500x faster than the 1st Gen iPad.
Yes, your Netflix and chill game will be on point, but more importantly painting and drawing in Procreate will look and feel like the real thing, and editing video content in Premier Pro will be sleeker and cleaner.
Things are looking bright for the new display screen
The new iPad Pro’s liquid retina XDR display screen delivers ‘unparalleled, true-to-life imagery’ thanks to the 10,000 mini LEDs beneath the glass screen.
This update to the display screen achieves extremely high brightness and crisp colour. Videographers and photographers rejoice as your content will be more realistic than ever. The iPad Pro is perfect for you to take anywhere to edit and you won’t be needing any glasses to see even the smallest details in your content.
Advanced cameras, for advanced creators
Gone are the days where creators would shoot their content on a mobile or camera, and then export those files over to an iPad to edit. Now, you can shoot spectacular photography and videography thanks to the updated iPad Pro cameras.
Firstly, the ultra wide camera has a 12MP sensor and a 122‑degree field of view. iPad photos have never looked so crisp and shooting in low-light is easier than ever.
They’ve also introduced a new Centre Stage feature, which uses the ultra wide camera and machine learning to change the way you video call your team. As you move around on screen, the camera will track and follow these movements and always keep you centred.
Next up we have the LiDAR Scanner. This measures how long it will take for light to reflect back from objects on screen, creating an in-depth map of any space you’re filming. This makes for excellent AR experiences and green-screening.
Say hello to 5G
Accessing online files, collaborating with others and backing up data on the go will be made easier with newly available 5G. This incredibly fast cellular data means you can be online, wherever you are – a travel creator’s dream!
5G data means you can be more creative and productive, anywhere in the world. Plus, live streaming to your audience or video calling your team is even more convenient.
All day battery life
Having your device run out of power is annoying at the best of times. If it means you lose important work, it’s even worse. But if you’re a creator always on the go, carrying around a charger all day is only going to weigh you down.
The iPad Pro’s new battery means you have power for the entire day. Say goodbye to carrying around your bulky changer, scouring cafes for the most convenient powerpoint or losing work before it’s been saved.
An abundance of storage
With the amount of content that creators have on file, you want to be working off a device that can hold it all – and then some. Thankfully, the new iPad Pro not only has 2x faster storage access, but it also offers a new 2TB configuration. That’s an enormous storage capacity for all of your beautiful content.
Say goodbye to paying for more iCloud space. 2TB of storage means you can hold 60k pro raw photos or up to 220 hours of 4k HDR video content. All available at your fingertips, wherever you are.
Apple is taking orders for the new iPad Pro on April 30th, and will be available in the second half of May. We’re bursting at the seams waiting to see the content you create with it. In the meantime, learn more here.
