Being a blogger or even simply a photo-phonatic in London, you’d think you’d be spoiled for choice location wise. Unfortunately (and surprisingly!), this isn’t necessarily the case. I’ve been blogging for around three years and it’s only over the last year or so that I’ve settled into my groove style and location wise for shooting; I’d see lots of gorgeous coffee shops, streets and landmarks, but they were always overpopulated (nothing kills the momentum like queuing up for ‘the’ shot) and used in every other photo I was seeing as I scrolled through Instagram.
So, ladies and gents, I’m about to share with you my top five locations for shooting in London. A few of which I’m actually a little bit hesitant to spread word of as at the moment they’re my little, quiet personal gems! But I hope you’ll find as much inspiration from them as I do…
Oxford Street
A not so secret one to kick off with, but Oxford Street, especially at Christmas, just has to be on every Instagrammers bucket list. More than just that, if you head down towards Hamleys and stand in the middle of the road (on the dividing island – even Instagram isn’t worth risking your life for) there’s a taxi rank that has residence and if you ask really nicely, one might let you pop on the bonnet for a second!
Ezra Street
This is my one true hidden gem… but here goes! If you’re looking for one small road that offers about five totally different shots, head to Ezra Street just off Columbia Road. With gorgeous cobbled streets, exposed original brickwork and the most picturesque restaurant you’ll probably ever find, it’s the most ideal location for a speedy shoot with a vintage feel. Plus, the aforementioned restaurant (named Campania & Jones) are lovely and usually let you change in their bathroom as long as you buy a drink or two.
Exmouth Market
I might be slightly biased seeing as it’s where I live, but Exmouth Market provides so many beautiful shooting opportunities. Not only does it have gorgeous exteriors with dark or light brick walls, flower shops and cobbled roads, but it is also home to restaurants such as Coin Laundry and Bourne and Hollingsworth Buildings. Of the two, Coin Laundry are most definitely more open to playing host to a speedy influencer shoot and have such charming vintage interiors, but if you can be quick and discrete, you can also get a shot in Bourne and Hollingsworth’s lovely light, flower filled restaurant too.
Princelet Street
Princelet Street near Spitalfields and Brick Lane is often used for movies so keeps the ‘Olde London’ charm alive and well for this very reason. It’s often line with beautiful vintage cars and has some of the most picturesque buildings I’ve seen… ever! You might get caught up in a tourist group or two and spot a few fellow ‘grammers around the area, but it’s generally quiet of people and cars.
Somerset House
Somerset House was an Instagram hot spot until about six months ago when people began to move on to a new location trend. What that means to me? I’m back baby! Somerset House is a stunning place to visit whether you’re shooting or simply ‘touristing’, so there’s really no down side to paying it a visit. For shooting purposes, it has many different corners which, although they all have similar brickwork, allows for variety of photos. Just remember to let the security staff know you’re taking some pictures beforehand if you’re using a big, professional looking camera as they like to be in the know.
