A self-proclaimed ocean addict, Gabi found that becoming an Influencer was the natural transition from her photography career. When she’s not spending her time in the surf at Byron Bay, she’s on the road, or at the airport, combining her love of travelling and photography.
Gabi put together a little short video for Vamp, sharing her process in creating her Instagram post for our recent Pottery Barn campaign.
Describe your style in 3 words.
Free, cosy, cool.
What don’t most people know about you?
My first home was Fiji!
What inspired you to start your own blog?
For a long time growing up I wanted to be a magazine editor. When people would ask what I hoped to become and I would tell them, they would often say ‘you must be very interested in writing then’, and when I thought about it writing really wasn’t my number one interest. I started to think about what it was about magazines that I loved so much. I quickly realised it was the photo shoots and the little worlds that are created within them.
I would buy probably 3-6 magazines a week when I was in high school and I always had little ideas about the shoots I hoped to see on those pages. When those shoots never really came up, I decided to simply start creating them myself.
What do you think makes a successful photograph?
An ability to see the casual magic in everyday. I think a very talented photographer can take something that looks quite ordinary and photograph it in a way that takes it to a new level – gives it a new life. Also, knowing beautiful light when you see it. Good light makes the world of difference!
What are your favourite editing apps?
VSCO, Afterlight & Faded.
What is your optimum posting time?
5pm – 9pm Sunday to Thursday.
What do you attribute your success to?
I think growing up in this generation and living in such a globalised world now has really given young creatives a new lease on the creative world. It seems that it’s all at our fingertips now! I feel so incredibly lucky to be a part of that.
Along with this, I think the ability to see beauty in all things around you and not disregard the seemingly ordinary is very important and has played a big part in my success. I tend to photograph things in a way so they remain very real, but simply sprinkled with some good light and a little extra love.

What is your favourite photograph of all of your Instagram photos?
A recent shoot I did with two friends of mine, Cartia and Dan. It was a lovers shoot and it is no doubt the work I’m most proud of. There is one particular shot of them lying in bed up against an open window and they’re both laughing. That shot always gives me a little buzz of happiness!
Wise words for those just starting out or looking to take it to the next level?
Know your style, be real, be consistent with your posting, and be kind to those you work with and those who follow you. A lovely comment can go a long way. It’s a big, beautiful community after all!
Which Vamp campaign have you had the most fun creating content for? Why?
I really enjoyed the Samsung Glaxay S2 campaign! I absolutely loved the product so much so I found creating the content very relaxing and fun. I found myself using the tablet in my everyday life in so many ways, so I never found myself struggling for content inspiration.

What is the best thing that has come about due to @gabimulder and Oak & Bone?
Hands down the ability to travel and work at the same time, and the people I meet and get to work with when I’m on the road. I find it very difficult to stay in the same place for a long time, so always having that ability to get up and move is a something I’m so incredibly grateful for!
